Regular practice and well-planned performance helped Bureaucrats` XI retain the trophy in the 5th Tata Steel Festival Football Tournament, beating Tata Steel XI 4-2 in the final, via tie-breaker at Kalinga Stadium here today.
After play in the regulation time ended in 1-1 draw, Bureaucrats` XI converted three penalty kicks against one by Tata Steel XI to lift the trophy for the second successive year. Earlier in the semifinals, Bureaucrats` XI beat Legislators` XI 1-0, while Tata Steel XI prevailed over Media XI 2-1.
Sambad editor Soumya Ranjan Patnaik inaugurated the one-day tournament, which featured four teams. New Indian Express Resident Editor Srimoy Kar, Transport Minister Subrat Tarai, Tata Steel vice-presidents Sanjiv Paul, Hridayeshwar Jha and OERC chairman S P Nanda gave away the trophies at the closing function.
Individual prizes for impressive performance went to Bureaucrats XI`s Debi Biswal (best goalkeeper), S K Samal (best defender), S D Durga (man of the tournament); Legislators XI`s Debendra Kanhar (best mid-fielder) Media XI`s Bikash Marandi (best forward) and Tata Steel XI`s Prohil Sinha (highest scorer).
